Colour Your City is a community project to transform and enrich urban spaces with colour.

Adding colour can help to energise and enhance the urban environment. In doing so it can spark and create new creative possibilities, foster a sense of local pride, improve communication and social cohesion.

GREAT! HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?

Participate in the first ‘Colour Your Day’
on Monday 16th January 2012 by:

1 OUTFIT.

Wear a colourful outfit all day.
Step out and bring the colour where ever you go that day!

1 ACTION.

Take one action to add colour to one of your local spaces.
Your action could be painting, craft, art and/or gardening related.
Get creative and have fun!

The project has been created by Londoner Cath, out of participation in the Self Expression and Leadership Programme at Landmark Education.

ACTION IDEAS FOR ART AND CRAFT

Make a piece of art and/or craft to put up around your local area:

• An inspirational message on a sign / banner. These can be drawn / stencilled / stitched / appliqued. Perhaps give it to a shopkeeper to put up in their window, or leave it for strangers to find at a bus stop.
• Good ole bunting – yes the classic veteran of street parties.
• Yarn bombing: a type of street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted cloth rather than paint or chalk. An art initially almost exclusively about reclaiming and personalizing sterile or cold public places (More on Wikipedia).
  Long tube-like pieces can be made by finger knitting – a fun and easy way to knit without the use of knitting needles!!

ACTION IDEAS FOR GARDENING

Get the forks and trowels for nature’s finest colours by planting:
flowers
plants
trees
seed bombs
fruit
vegetables

Make use of brightly coloured pots and planters too!

ACTION IDEAS FOR PAINT

Get the brushes and bristles out and paint colour onto:
your front door!
walls
columns
benches
interiors
shutters
railings

Get your local school, businesses, library etc involved!

Community Repaint is an organisation that enables community groups to make use of left over paint on community projects
